Opened 27 May 2024

Overview

CITB has been leading work on behalf of Welsh Government to develop and offer Degree apprenticeships in Construction Professions in Wales.

Thanks to a partnership between Welsh Government, Hefcw, the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and three Welsh universities, the first cohort of students should be starting their apprenticeships and degree courses as early as September 2024.

Of the 9 universities in Wales, the University of South Wales (USW), the University of Wales Trinity St Davids and Wrexham University have accepted the invitation by the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) to offer the degree programmes.

The new degree apprenticeships being created under the project have been subject to external consultation with industry, include civil engineering, surveying, quantity surveying, and construction management.

Working Closely with professional bodies such as the ICE, CIOB, RICS, CIHT and others, the aim of the project is to ensure graduates have the higher-level professional knowledge and skills needed by employers.

Attached is the final version of the Wales Construction Degree Apprenticeship Framework for consultation. The consultation is on the Framework itself as consultation on the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours for each occupation was undertaken in late 2023.
